| | | Transforming performance at the 8th Civil Service Investors in People Conference | 17/12/2008 | Introduction | | Delegates from throughout the UK travelled to the BERR conference centre in December 2008 to attend the 8th annual Investors in People civil service conference. | Publication | | The event outlined how working with Investors in People can transform performance and delegates heard from a range of speakers within national and local government, including Dame Helen Ghosh, permanent secretary at DEFRA. During the past year a series of research studies have shown that working with Investors in People delivers proven bottom-line benefits, and the conference highlighted how working with the framework can add significant value to the public sector.
Minister for Skills and Apprenticeships Lord Tony Young’s keynote speech focused on: “The time for renewed commitment to Investors in People” saying, “There is a continued commitment to IIP from Government, meaning that the future of the UK’s leading people management standard is secure and set to prosper”.
Lord Young’s also stated that, “The Investors in People Standard has been developed and re-worked over the 17 years of its existence and has changed from being simply about training and people development – albeit a vital part of all organisations, to a highly versatile, outcome-based approach to business improvement which is used by nearly a third of the UK workforce. Government values Investors in People and that we believe it has a very important role for UK plc. I believe strongly that if we all used IIP to facilitate and communicate change, it would improve our effectiveness and get better results.”
